Adventure Camps hosts backcountry camps for children, teenagers, and young adults that foster community, social connection, and personal growth while discovering respect and reverence for the natural world.
Everything about the camp is simple, real, and creative, which helps growing children understand that they are a part of the world. The camp community, from young to old, works together to the best of their abilities to care for each other through cooking, cleaning, and helping to create a caring time together.
At the heart of our mission is not just activities or adventures, but the unique community we form each time we come together. Our focus in on the community each camp forms and the experiences witnessed together, rather than developing technical skills.
The strong rhythm of the day and the beauty and power of the natural world that we are living in helps build the children’s wonder and gratitude for the world. Our special traditions include beloved camp songs and assemblies where an ongoing story is told to the camp. Each year we create new games and activities out of our own initiative and imagination while building on what has come the years before and opening to what is new and unique to this year.
History:
Adventure Camps came into being in the summer of 2020. They were formed out of the need of having smaller, more regional camps. A group of young adults directed the formation of this new and exciting expansion of the youth and children’s activity of The Christian Community.
Before Adventure Camps, The Christian Community had a tradition of outdoor summer camps beginning nearly 50 years ago on the East Coast, in California, Ontario, and Wisconsin. The camps were larger, longer, and often times stationary. Over the past few years, the camps have transformed into smaller, more specific, and fluid camps, led by experienced outdoor enthusiasts and and young adults.
