CAMP GREENWOOD LAKE

Providing a place where children ages 8 to 14 can experience nature, sleep in cabins, cook meals, swim, canoe, play games, make handicrafts, listen to storytellers, and sing, sing, sing!

Camp Greenwood Lake takes its name from a beloved song by Brendan Taaffe, a favorite among our camp counselors. The name reflects our belief that camp isn’t just a physical place—it’s a feeling, a community, and what you make of it.

At Camp Greenwood Lake, we come together to sing, share stories, craft beautiful creations, swim, canoe, build fires, laugh, play games, and truly connect. Campers join small age-based groups led by their counselors, where they enjoy wholesome, delicious meals, embark on adventures, and form bonds that create a family away from home. The joy and laughter, the challenge of learning, and the experience of sharing together create a community that nurtures each child’s heart and mind, leaving them with memories and lessons that last throughout the year.

What to Expect: A Day At Camp Greenwood Lake

Mornings

As the sun rises, counselors and staff gather to greet the day with song, their voices carrying through the camp as they visit each cabin, gently waking sleepy campers. Counselors stay with their groups, helping everyone get ready for the day — brushing teeth, showering, and putting on fresh clothes. We take a moment to stretch, breathe, and hear an opening verse or poem, allowing everyone to ease into the rhythm of the new day. While mornings are filled with excitement, we focus on starting slow, giving everyone a chance to settle into themselves.

When the camp bell rings, it’s time for breakfast—our homemade, comforting meal that brings us all together. It’s a time to share stories, talk about any dreams we had, and laugh with friends, all while looking forward to the day ahead. During breakfast, we also hear the day’s announcements: activity plans, the weather, and any special updates.

Afternoons

The morning activities slow down as it’s time for lunch. Groups line up and are called in one by one, and we bless the meal together. Once again, we enjoy a home-cooked, wholesome lunch shared with friends. It’s the perfect time to hear about each other’s morning adventures and reconnect as a whole camp.

After lunch and cleanup, we enter a quiet rest period. Campers have the chance to nap, relax in hammocks, read, or draw—whatever helps them recharge. This time allows everyone to catch their breath and gather strength for the afternoon, and our staff often takes advantage for a quick power nap.

When the rest time ends, it’s time for a snack, and we launch into a full afternoon of activities. These can be with your group or the entire camp, offering opportunities for swimming, canoeing, paddleboarding, playing camp games, exploring, and more. There’s also time to help prepare meals or engage in other camp traditions.

As dinner approaches, we wind down activities and gather near the main site for pre-dinner games, showers, or a quieter moment to unwind before coming together again for a meal. Everyone can find time to do what they need or want before dinner.

Evenings

Evenings at camp begin with dinner, our final shared meal of the day. Groups gather around their table, sharing stories of the day’s adventures, perhaps trying new foods, and already dreaming about what’s to come the follwing day. At Camp Greenwood Lake, dinner is a beautiful time—with the sun slowly setting, the temperature cooling, and even the birds settling into quiet.

After dinner, the kitchen is cleaned, campers add an extra layer for warmth, and there’s a bit of time to relax before we gather for our evening assembly. Unlike the morning’s more upbeat assembly, the evening assembly has a calm and reverent mood. Groups walk in together, and instead of our morning songs, we sing calming evening songs as we prepare to wind down.

The assembly begins with the lighting of our camp candles, marking the passing of each day. With every new candle, we acknowledge the time we’ve spent together and the day coming to a close. We sing, listen to our ongoing camp story told by the storyteller, and end with some more songs and a spoken verse. Set against the backdrop of the lake and the fading sunset, it’s a peaceful and memorable way to end the day.

After assembly, groups spend time together—perhaps gathering around a small campfire, filling water bottles, brushing teeth, or sharing quiet moments. Counselors read or tell stories before it’s time for bed. As campers settle in, the staff meets to reflect on the day and prepare for the next, staying nearby until the last campers drift off to sleep, ensuring everyone feels safe and at home.
