Unplugged And Present
In a world where devices capture our attention, Adventure Camps offer something different — the rare chance to disconnect in order to truly connect. Here, campers leave behind screens, notifications, and the constant digital pull, stepping into a space where face-to-face conversations, shared experiences, and the beauty of the outdoors take center stage.
Without the distraction of a phone in their pocket, campers learn to be fully present—to listen without interruption, to laugh without the need to capture the moment, and to embrace experiences as they happen. Whether they’re swapping stories under a starlit sky, paddling across a quiet lake, or sharing a meal with their group, campers discover that the best connections don’t require WiFi.
Stepping away from devices isn’t about restriction — it’s about freedom. Free from the pressure of social media, campers gain confidence in their own voices, unfiltered by likes or comments. They experience the power of genuine eye contact, the richness of unhurried conversations, and the joy of simply being in the moment. They reconnect not only with others but with themselves, realizing that some of life’s most meaningful moments happen when there’s nothing to scroll, no notifications to check—just the world around them, waiting to be fully experienced.
This is an ongoing practice for all of us at camp — staff included. As adults, it’s not always easy to disconnect, but it’s so worth it that, midway through, one often forgets about much of their digital world. While staff and directors keep phones on hand for safety and practicality, we, too, practice being as present as possible, limiting our use because we know how rare and rewarding this experience truly is.
