Collaboration & Leadership
At Adventure Camps, we believe leadership isn’t about titles, it’s about how we show up for others. This begins with how our counselors, staff, and directors work together, co-creating camp in a spirit of shared responsibility. Rather than a top-down approach, we see leadership as a foundation of support, just as a strong base holds up a pyramid, true leadership lifts others rather than standing above them.
Through teamwork and shared challenges, campers experience this firsthand. Whether paddling in sync on the water, solving a group challenge, or making decisions together, they learn that leadership isn’t about being the loudest voice or having the strongest opinion—it’s about listening, understanding, and knowing when to step up for the good of the group. Understanding that the best leaders are also the best teammates, they recognize that leadership often means leading by example — stepping in when needed and doing the task rather than directing others to do it their way.
At camp, leadership grows in spaces where people feel seen, valued, and heard. When campers recognize that their contributions matter, they develop the confidence to lead —not for personal recognition, but to support and strengthen those around them. They learn that collaboration isn’t about individual success but about creating something greater together. The best leaders aren’t just those who take charge, but those who lift others, knowing that true leadership is built on trust, empathy, and shared purpose.
