Counselor - Camp Greenwood Lake - 2018-2019

Amrita Shore is pursuing a Master's degree in Community Development and Applied Economics, with a certificate in Community Planning and Resilience, at the University of Vermont in Burlington. Her interdisciplinary studies focus on developing innovative approaches to strengthening communities and addressing global challenges through creative solutions. She believes that when communities work in harmony, they create something far greater than the sum of their individual parts. Building on her undergraduate foundation in the same field, her graduate work emphasizes practical strategies for fostering resilience and sustainable development, with the ultimate goal of creating a better world for all beings. Through her studies and work, she explores how collective action and a shared vision can transform challenges into opportunities for positive change

At the age of eight, Amrita experienced her first summer with us at Camp Greenwood Lake and returned every possible year of her grade school before she began attending any camps offered for high schoolers. After several years of HS camps, Amrita then transitioned from a participant to staff when she became a counselor for the very camps she attended as a child. She describes the camps as a magical experience where community and even lifelong connections can be built through singing, games, storytelling, and shared experiences out in nature.

It comes as no surprise that Amrita is once again beyond excited to be part of Adventure Camps this summer and eager to share her years of camp experience with new adventurers so that they, too, may cherish camp memories as she does.
